The Mise en Place

5 of 23

Your prep station before cooking begins

Sauce (0/23)

½ cupscoconut milk
½ cupsolive or coconut oil (omit this ingredient and do another 1/2 cup of plant-based milk if you want to keep it oil free)
1 countlemon juice
1½ countsweet (vidalia is great!) or white onions(cut into rounds (you can essentially use any onions for this, but these taste the best, without such a pungent bitter after taste. regardless, the longer they are dehydrated, the more that bitter taste goes away!))
1 tbspblack to my roots

The sauce is thicker than expected.

Add water, citrus juice, or plant milk one tablespoon at a time, blending between additions until it loosens without turning watery.

The flavor tastes flat.

Add acid and salt in small increments, then let the sauce rest for a few minutes before tasting again.
