The Method
PREHEAT
Preheat the air fryer to 400F (205C) for 3 minutes.
Empty air fryer hazard: Do not leave the air fryer unattended while preheating; ensure the basket is fully inserted to maintain temperature.
Air fryer is preheated and hot.
TOSS
Toss carrots (1¼ lb) with 1 tbsp olive oil (1½ tbsp) and Cajun seasoning (2 tsp). Taste the seasoning blend--add a pinch of salt only if needed.
Uneven seasoning: Avoid dumping seasoning in one spot; sprinkle gradually while tossing to prevent clumping.
Carrots are evenly coated with oil and seasoning, no pooling.
ROAST
Air fry 12 minutes, shake, then cook 3-5 minutes more until browned and tender.
Uneven browning: Overcrowding the basket prevents air circulation, leading to steamed rather than roasted carrots.
Carrots have browned edges and are tender when pierced.
LACQUER
Time-sensitiveStir vinegar, Dijon, and remaining olive oil (1½ tbsp) into a thin glaze. Toss hot carrots (1¼ lb) with the glaze and cook 1-2 minutes more to set.
Burning the glaze: Vinegar and Dijon sugars can char quickly. Do not exceed 2 minutes or the glaze will turn bitter.
Carrots are lightly glossy and evenly coated with glaze.
